Cycle 3 - Upper Primary

Children in this age group are (from 10 to 12 years of age), are all working to develop themselves socially, physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually, which makes for a lively environment.  As these children learn to behave socially in a conscious way, they need to give energy to shared as well as individual activities.

Social awareness, both the harmonious functioning of their own group and their place in the world as a whole, is a major focus of development.  Purposeful activities, contributing to their own and to the world's social group, develop both their inner faculties and their consciousness of others in the world.

Engagement in intelligent physical work, both as a group and individually, allows the children to exercise their muscles, work towards a purpose, plan, design, test out, and also to organise themselves for a common purpose.

More conceptual exploration of the environment is involved also for these children as they move to a more language-based learning, reading, writing, thinking, discussing and questioning.  Montessori Home
